Regional Police are sharing new details about their sudden death investigation yesterday in which a dog, partially covered in blood, was put outside on a balcony for hours.
It all started around 1:40 p.m., Thursday afternoon, when officers responded to a call on Hoffman Street, near Homer Watson and Ottawa.
That call was for a 41-year-old man experiencing a medical emergency — he had a pre-existing condition.
Police say during this incident, the man’s dog became aggressive and bit him.
Paramedics did what they could, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The dog was put out on the balcony by emergency responders, where it barked and howled until it was taken away after 5:30.
It is now being dealt with by the Kitchener-Waterloo Humane Society.
Witnesses described that dog as having blood on its head and neck.
The coroner’s office is investigating the man’s cause of death.
A spokesperson for the Humane Society says they will not be commenting on the incident, as it is an active police investigation.
