Guelph approves switch to energy efficient LED street lights

The City of Guelph will soon see big energy savings.

City council approved switching 13,119 street lights to Light Emitting Diode (LED) bulbs.

Manager of Climate Change for Guelph, Alex Chapman, says the city currently spends about $10 million dollars a year on energy.

Chapman says with the switch–the savings will be significant. “The city will save between $800,000 to $1.5 million a year.”

The project is costing the city $8 million.
