Uptown Waterloo Jazz Festival Celebrates 25 years

Its been a tradition in Waterloo for a quarter century.

The Jazz Festival is set to begin for another year of music and entertainment.

This year marks the 25th running of the festival and features two stages, one at Waterloo City Hall, and one at Waterloo Town Sqaure.

In celebration of Canada 150, this year’s jazz festival will feature 100 per cent Canadian talent.

The music begins 11 oclock this morning with the youth jazz ensemble at Waterloo Town Square and will wrap up Sunday afternoon with Brass Transit.

Along with Canadian talent, organizer Patti Brooks says this year’s acts are more diverse than ever.

“We have made a really good effort to bring in funk jazz, latin jazz, swing, some motown, some soul, everything that makes up jazz. You give someone a saxaphone and it makes a show.”

One of the biggest names at this years festival is Matt Dusk, who is returning for a third time.

He takes the stage at Waterloo City Hall Saturday at 9 p.m.
