Five suspicious fires in 14 hours in Wellington County

The list of suspicious fires in Wellington County keeps growing.

Five fires were reported in the span of just 14 hours on Thursday.

The first was reported at 6:00 AM, the last at 8:00 PM in Rockwood.

The blaze in Rockwood destroyed a vacant pool house on Main Street South.

A witness says they saw two males breaking into the property just 20 minutes before the pool house went up in flames.

Police say no one is injured, and are treating the fires as suspicious.

That brings the number of suspicious fires in Wellington County to over two dozen according to Const. Joshua Cunningham.

“Right now we have about 26 suspicious fires, that is since October 2016 I believe.”

Police remain tight lipped about the situation though, and have yet to say if the cases are related.

Cunningham tells 570 News, Wellington County OPP have yet to make an official call.

“There are a lot of similarities that would lead someone to suspect that might be the case, but we are open to anything.”
