Illegal marijuana plants found growing on Townsend farm

It wasn’t something officers were expecting to find in a farmer’s field — over 100 full grown, marijuana plants.

OPP say a concerned citizen contacted them Tuesday, after they stumbled across the plants in a farmer’s field on Norfolk County Road 19.

It appeared that unknown suspects had cleared a section of the field, and replaced it with 120 pot plants.

Provincial police say the plants have subsequently been removed, but warn we may see more of these incidents, as many outdoor marijuana crops will be harvested from late August up until the beginning of October.

Police are now out with reminders to report any suspicious activity.
