Local cyclists pedal for mental health through ‘Ride Don’t Hide’

Over 100 local riders will hop on their bikes today in St. Jacob’s for ‘Ride Don’t Hide‘.

Thousands of Canadians from coast-to-coast will hit the road and raise money through the national fundraiser, which aims to help break the stigma around mental health.

Organizer Martin Bauman tell us the funds support the Canadian Mental Health Association’s services in Waterloo-Wellington.

“This money will benefit all the work that we do in the community — from mental health, addictions, and developmental services.”

Bauman adds that most people have been touched by mental health in one way or another — including himself.

“Personally, I’m very connected to the mental health cause. I lost a cousin to suicide, so I know what that feels like. Also on the other side of it, with these events, to come out and see 150 people want to come out and raise funds– is really empowering.”

Over $32,000 has already been raised this year for for CMHA Waterloo Wellington’s initiatives, and 150 riders of all ages and abilities will take off from St. Jacobs for the ‘Ride Don’t Hide’ event starting at 8 a.m. Sunday.
