Some good news for drivers in the City of Cambridge as roadwork at the King and Eagle intersection is set to wrap-up by Friday morning.
Overnight construction and lane reductions in the area has jammed traffic up this past week, and created some heavy noise for people living in the area.
570 News spoke to Brian, whose parents live in the area, and he says whenever his son stays over at their house, he complains about the heavy noise.
“With the construction going on at night, it’s very inconvenient and loud at the same time. You can’t even keep your windows up a little bit, or my son won’t be able to sleep when he’s at his grandparents. I think the overnight construction was a good idea, but they should’ve just cut down the hours, and done some of it on the weekend as well.”
Shelly has lived in the area for the past two and half years, and says the past few nights have been rough.
“It’s horrible, just constant honking and construction sounds. I just feel like they shouldn’t have closed it at night. We live on the 7th floor, and can still hear it. I agree that doing it all overnight was probably better, but it’s still an ear sore for everyone here.”
570 News has reached out to the City of Cambridge for further comment, but the Region of Waterloo has said the construction was taking place overnight to reduce disruptions to homeowners and motorists in the area.
Once the work wraps up Friday around 6 a.m., there will be a few more closures over the next year, as future construction is still set for the Fountain, Shantz Hill, and King Street area.
Once all is said and done, the area will be fitted with new bike lanes, wider streets, and new sidewalks.
