Trudeau government to apologize to LGBTQ2 community

By CORMAC MAC SWEENEY

The Trudeau government is going to make a formal apology to Canadians who have suffered due to their sexuality.

For years LGBTQ2 advocates have been calling for an apology and even compensation for the institutional persecution their community has faced.

A statement from Liberal MP Randy Boissonnault, the prime minister’s adviser on LGBTQ2 issues, says Justin Trudeau is committed to making a formal apology before the end of the year.

For decades men and women were jailed, or lost their jobs, simply because of who they loved.

The apology will follow a summer of consultations the federal government will be holding across the country, in order to consider issues like the wording of the apology, pardons for those convicted of crimes due to their sexuality and what if any compensation should be offered

Today is also the international day against homophobia, transphobia and biphobia.
