Panthers open 99th season with victory over Burlington

The Kitchener Panthers opened it’s 99th season of the Intercounty Baseball League with a 4-2 win over the Burlington Herd.

Noelvis Entenza (1-0) struggled in his first start of the year.

Entenza lasted 2.1 innings, striking out two giving up 3 hits and two runs while walking four batters.

The bullpen would put Entenza’s struggle aside and carry the Panthers to victory. Ian Rendon, Matt McGovern and Sean Ratcliffe would quiet Burlington’s bats in 4.1 innings of relief work.

Sean Reilly started his 21st season on fire at the plate. Reilly went 3-for-4 with two RBI’s and one run scored.

Cuban shortstop Yorbis Borroto earned his first two hits of his IBL career. Catcher Yulexis La Rosa drove in his first run in a Panthers uniform.

Mike Schnurr would pitch a perfect two innings for his first save of the year to secure the victory for the Panthers.

Kitchener will play their home opener Sunday as they welcome the three-peat IBL champions to town the Barrie Baycats.

First pitch set to fly at 2 p.m., from Jack Couch Park.
