Police investigate series of break and enters at Southridge Public School

An investigation is underway after a number of break and enters at Southridge Public School in Kitchener.

Inspector Mike Haffner with Regional Police tells 570 news there have been three break and enters at the school in the last month.

“The most recent one occurred on May 7th. Suspects smashed a glass emergency door and accessed a number of classrooms. They caused some damage, and stole approximately 40 iPads. It’s unfortunate that these types of incidents happen to our school system.”

Haffner says the estimated value of the iPads is around $20,000.

“Not only did these suspects steal thousands of dollars worth of iPads, but they also damaged an aquarium and killed a number of fish as a result.”

Haffner adds that Police aren’t sure if all of the break and enters are connected, and their investigation is ongoing.

“We haven’t linked the break and enters together specifically, as we are still investigating each of the circumstances. One of the alarming things about this latest investigation though is that it would appear that the suspect or suspects have intimate knowledge of the school, because they knew specifically where to go in the classrooms to access the iPads.”

Anyone with information relating to these incidents is asked to contact Regional Police at 519-650-8500 ext. 8422 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
