University of Guelph club devastated after space found vandalized

A club at the University of Guelph is devastated after finding their space vandalized.

On Sunday, the Central Student Association found paint splattered all over the carpet and walls, including artwork completed by other clubs.

“We were actually planning on going around with a photographer this week and doing a photo series and archiving all of the nice murals that were painted by these clubs over the years,” says Ryan Shoot, Finances and Operations Commissioner of the Central Student Association. “Things like that kind of hurt in that we aren’t able to give those clubs their history in the upcoming years like we promised.”

On their Facebook page, the group says one of the commissioners names was painted on multiple walls in an act of blatant bullying.

The space was left open to students who needed more space to study during the exam period.

It was also set for renovations this summer, and all furniture left in the room was offered to students to take for their new apartments, but all of the furniture was destroyed and the CSA is revoking the offer and now locking the doors at night.

Shoot says although he doesn’t estimate there are any damages due to the upcoming renovations, they are now behind in needing to wait for the gallons of paint to dry from the floors and walls before they can start, and it could be an extra day or two of work for construction crews.

“We’re not here to point fingers…we’d like people to be held accountable for their actions, but if you are trying to communicate something, coming in to speaking to someone could have a much better hold than making an action. Now we have to close this to the public and lock the doors and in the long run it has affected students,” says Shoot.
