Fans unite in downtown Kitchener for Comic Con 2017

It’s going to be a busy weekend in downtown Kitchener as Comic Con 2017 gets underway.

Hundreds of artists, cosplayers, and fans will pack Kitchener City Hall for the third annual event.

Organizer Ronald Hoppe says the convention will feature more than just comic books.

“There’s tons of things to do at this year’s event including face painting, colouring contests, a Lego party, and lots of local vendors.”

Hoppe adds that there will also be some reputable names coming out to this year’s event.

“Alex Armbruster is making an appearance, and he is a fantastic individual that has been working in the film industry for a long time. One of his chief accomplishments happens to be appearing in a movie you made have heard of called ‘Suicide Squad’– which also won an Oscar this year.”

Other guests include voice actor Christian Potenza, cartoonist and illustrator Andrew Thomas, and the former host of YTV’s hit show ‘Uh Oh’– Scott Yaphe.

“We’re not just showcasing comic book culture at this event, we’re also diving into Canadian television pop culture. When you go to other Cons in Ontario, they still focus heavily on American film and television. We feel like Canadian content deserves to be showcased, and that’s one of the pillars we put into place for this year’s event. If you don’t quite dig comic books, you’ll hopefully dig the talent that we have coming out,” said Hoppe.

The event is running Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
