Just under $2M raised in final fundraiser for United Way of Cambridge and North Dumfries

The final numbers are in from the United Way of Cambridge and North Dumfries 2016 fundraising campaign and they are down from the previous year.

It’s announced just over $1.9-million was raised, down from just over $2.2-million in 2015.

Chief Executive Officer Ron Dowhaniuk stressed “this does not diminish the value of what has been achieved” and the money raised “will help to sustain a crucial network of supports and services in our community.”

At the same time, he admits it shows the “United Way has not been immune from the challenges facing the nonprofit sector as a whole.”

He’s hoping the upcoming merger with the United Way of Kitchener Waterloo and Area will better position them to tackle those challenges.

The merger takes effect April 1st.
