Centre in the Square recieves more Canada 150 funding

Kitchener’s Centre in the Square is receiving $395,000 from the federal government. The City of Kitchener is also going to match that grant for a total of $790,000.

The new money will help with infrastructure upgrades. Specifically, improving their air conditioning system, investing in eco-friendly and efficient LED lighting, and adding hydration units to cut down on bottled water.

Kitchener-Centre MP Raj Saini tells 570 News the money will help Centre in the Square reduce its footprint. “It’s a recycling project that will benefit the facility for years to come.”

Meanwhile, Kitchener Mayor Berry Vrbanovic says the infrastructure updates are much needed for a 37 year-old building. “It’s going to allow Centre in the Square to tackle their needs like HVAC, water fountains, and ultimately benefit the facility and city with reducing its environmental impact.”

The grant money comes from the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program which helps communities celebrate sports, arts, recreation, and leisure in their home towns.
