‘Why not us?’ – Rangers open playoffs in Owen Sound

The Kitchener Rangers open the 2017 OHL Playoffs on the road in Owen Sound Friday night, against one of the hottest teams in the league right now.

The Attack have only lost two games in regulation dating back to December 9th.

Owen Sound finished third in the Western Conference with 102 points, Kitchener locked down sixth with 77 points.

The Rangers are led by 100 point man Adam Mascherin, while the Attack have three 40-plus goal scorers in Petus Palmu, Nick Suzuki and Johan Gadjovich.

Kitchener will need to stay out of the penalty box, as Owen Sound finished the regular season with the OHL’s best power play. But the Rangers were not far behind at sixth.

“Why not us?” – That is the question Rangers overager Darby Llewellyn has been posing to his younger teammates. “We have the speed, we have the skill…I think we can surprise teams, I really do.” added Llewellyn.

Rangers winger Jake Henderson is looking forward to playing a shutdown role in the series. “Our main job is to shutdown the top dogs and hopefully keep them in their kennel.”

And Rangers captain Frank Hora expects the series will be physical, much like the final regular season game in Owen Sound. “I mean, we like to play tough against them, we definitely like to be tough right back.”

Game 1 is on 570 NEWS at 7 p.m. Same time for Game 2 on Saturday.

The series then heads back to Kitchener for Game 3 on Monday. 570 NEWS will have the pre-game show at 6:35 p.m.
