Suspensions loom for elementary students with outstanding immunization records

Region of Waterloo Public Health is out with a warning that elementary students whose immunization records are not up-to-date will be suspended from school on March 29.

To date, 2907 student records are still outstanding.

Parents are urged to call Public Health to update their child’s immunization record.

Parents who received a suspension order have until 4:30 p.m. on March 28th to provided proof of immunization or a valid exemption to Region of Waterloo Public Health or their child will be suspended from school.

Public health says that they collect records of all students attending school in the region in order to ensure all children are up-to-date in the event of a vaccine preventable disease outbreak.

Parents can contact their health care provider or family doctor to get their immunization records and immunizations. For those without a family doctor, Public Health offers immunization clinics in both Waterloo and Cambridge and a list of walk-in clinics can be found on here.
