Sunday marks last day of ski season at Chicopee

Spring is right around the corner, and while some of are excited for the beginning of the season, it also means the end of another.

Sunday, March 19 is officially the last day of ski season at Chicopee Resort. Despite the new dusting of snow we’ve received this weekend, Executive Director, Bill Creighton says it won’t change their end date. Their season typically finishes at the end of spring break, to allow them to prepare for upcoming events.

As this weekend’s snow has shown, the weather this winter has been all over the place.

“This was a wild season. We started off with some great snow early, which helped us kick off the season, so we did get Christmas in. Then January and February, whoever heard of plus 18 degrees in February! So we had lots of ups and downs,” says Creighton.

“With our new snow making system, we were able to recover. As soon as we got those cold days, we were able to recover.”

Creighton went on to explain that despite the weather, they had a fairly average year for attendance, but the March Break weather certainly helped. Monday and Tuesday were fairly cold, so attendance dropped, but as soon as the nicer weather rolled in, he says they saw a jump in attendance for the rest of the week.

Chicopee Resort is year round, and they will spend the next little while preparing to host the CRSA Racing Championships, before opening for their green season.
