Special weather statement: At least 10 cm of snow on the way

A major winter storm is heading to southern Ontario on Monday.

Environment Canada says the worst hit area will likely be the Hamilton-Niagara corridor which could be digging out from up to 30 centimetres of snow before the system tapers off Tuesday night and into Wednesday.

Waterloo Region is under a special weather statement.

570 News Weather Specialist John Wilson expects the snow to begin here late Monday morning or early afternoon.

He forecasts 10 centimetres of snow for our region and perhaps as much as 15.

The City of Cambridge has declared a snow event from 7 a.m. on Tuesday until 7 p.m. on Wednesday. There’s no on-street parking or you risk being towed/ticketed.

Making matters worse will be strengthening winds which will result in blowing snow and reduced visibility.
