Local inventors show their stuff at Dragon’s Den auditions

A nervous excitement filled the air in the waiting room of the Dragon’s Den auditions at the Crowne Plaza hotel in downtown Kitchener on Thursday.

Hopeful participants waited for their names to be called so they could get the opportunity to present their ideas to the show’s producers.

Julian Ellul of Asphalt Academy, a sneaker cleaning company, wouldn’t miss this opportunity for the world.

“I just came from chemo, and I’m here and I feel like I’m going to faint,” says Ellul.

Ideas were presented that ranged from the already established STEMCamp, a nonprofit science camp for kids, to an innovative new App.

“Basically it’s designed to be kind of like an Uber but for homecare services,” says Stephen McCabe. “So you want your lawn cut, you can post it on the app, and then a service provider that we’ve vetted come and cut your lawn for you.”

Auditions have been taking place across the country from the beginning of February to the beginning of April.
