Region temporarily out of green bins

With garbage collection changed to a bi-weekly service in Waterloo Region, many of us are switching over to the green bin or at least stepping up our composting.

But the region now saying, they are temporarily out of green bins due to the increase in demand.

To put it in perspective, normally the region would hand out 6,000 bins a year, in 2017 alone over 11,000 bins have been handed out.

“The demand for green bins is very encouraging and we are very excited that so many residents decided to start using the program before the changes took effect,” said Jon Arsenault, Director of Waste Management. “Unfortunately for our supply, the demand has gotten higher every day as we approached our implementation date, with even greater numbers of residents coming in for bins now that the new services are underway. We gave away over 700 bins on Monday alone.”

The region expects more bins to arrive mid-March and early April.

A limited number of the large “Containers Only” blue boxes is still available.
