Historic win for U-W’s women’s hockey program

A first for the women’s hockey team at the University of Waterloo.

The Warriors blanked the Western Mustangs 2-0 on Sunday afternoon to win their first ever OUA playoff series.

Clinton’s Stephanie Sluys stopped 31 shots for her first career playoff shutout.

The Warrior goals were scored by Marissa Redmond and Michelle Tanel.

“It feels pretty good right now” said head coach Shaun Reagan. “We’ve come a long way and been through quite the grind to get here but I am extremely proud of our effort today. It was defence first and I knew the offence would take care of itself and it worked out for us.”

Waterloo will play the Gryphons in the semis. Game one goes Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in Guelph.
