Waterloo Region is changing the way trash is collected.
The changes start Monday, March 6th.
It means your curbside trash will only be collected bi-weekly as opposed to every week.
Recycling and green bins will be continued to be picked up weekly.
So for the week of March 6th, there will only be garbage collection in Kitchener and the townships.
Residents in Waterloo and Cambridge will see their trash picked up the week of the 13th.
You can view the waste collection calendar here.
Garbage collection will also be subjected to limits.
Single family homes and legal duplexes can have four standard size garbage bags or cans per household, up to 23 kilograms (50 pounds) each.
Some medical exceptions apply.
One of the reasons the Region is making the changes is to promote blue box and green bins.
Studies show that 2/3 of our landfill content could be recycled or put in the green bin.
The Region’s recycling rate has stalled around the 50 per cent mark, falling far behind other communities who are closer to the 70 per cent range.
The Region is also giving away a green bin and blue box to help promote the initiative.
You can pick up a blue box and green bin at 201 Savage Drive, Cambridge and 925 Erb Street West, Gate 1, Waterloo Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
