Canada Games officials visit Waterloo Region Tuesday

It’ll be an exciting Tuesday in Waterloo Region as officials from the Canada Games Evaluation Committee pay us a visit as we inch closer to our bid to host the 2021 Canada Summer Games.

As part of the visit, the committee will visit four local sports facilities, review final venue plans, hear presentations from some of our region’s finest, and experience our community’s enthusiasm and support in hosting the Summer Games.

Marty Deacon with the We Rally 2021 campaign told The Eric Drozd Show that mainly, the approval committee will be here to see what we can offer.

“They are looking to see if our venues are what they need to be. They are looking for the community to be around this, and get the look and the feel of the area. Plus, looking at accountability in our whole budget area, venue area, what does our marketing and communications plans look like– and really, what will this be like from a community-perspective and feel.”

The Committee will make stops at Chicopee Ski and Summer Resort, the University of Guelph, University of Waterloo, and Wilfrid Laurier University– and will attend a pep rally at THEMUSEUM in downtown Kitchener at 11 a.m.

Wayne Carew is Committee Chair and will also address the media regarding Waterloo Region’s bid at Christie Digital in Kitchener at 5 p.m.

The Committee’s final decision and winner of the 2021 Canada Summer Games bid will be announced on March 30th.
