Four jobs being eliminated at United Way K-W and area

Discouraging news from the United Way of Kitchener-Waterloo and area.

It says its last fundraising campaign came up $200,000 short of the previous one meaning it’s had to reduce staff.

Four full time positions are being eliminated and two vacancies will not be filled for now.

United Way CEO Jan Varner says “Unfortunately, such a gap demands staffing changes and likely community investment changes”.

It’s not clear yet how those investment changes will play out.

The United Way is providing support to staff affected by the decision.

Varner goes on to say, “United Way serves a number of different constituencies. Our first priority is always the people in our community who use our help to overcome obstacles, and build a better life. That will never change”.

She says, “These decisions are never easy and as always, we are committed to treating staff in a fair and respectful way.”
