Police in southern Ontario say they’re on the hunt for more than a dozen potentially deadly snakes after a the animals were stolen from a rural home.
Const. Phil Gavin of the Niagara Regional Police says the break-in took place over the weekend in Thorold.
He says 13 snakes were taken during the robbery, including a pregnant albino boa constrictor and several varieties of venomous reptiles.
He says these include a diamond-back rattlesnake, five varieties of cobra, a pit adder and several vipers.
Gavin says the owner of the residence is believed to have been raising and possibly breeding the reptiles for sale, a practice that is entirely legal across Ontario.
Gavin says the theft was likely targeted, but says police have no information on suspects at this time.
