Rangers begin three-game road trip with a win in the Soo

Your Kitchener Rangers came out with a win last night in Sault Ste. Marie to open their three games in four days road trip.

Luke Richardson got the nod in net for the Rangers and did not disappoint stopping 38 of 39 shots

The Rangers gave up the first goal of the game but quickly bounced back with two second period goals from Riley Damiani and Greg Meireles.

The Blueshirts would pot two more in the third period with goals from Connor Bunnaman and Joe Gareffa on their way to a 4-1 win.

Forward Connor Bunnaman tells us they worked hard on the defensive side of the puck.

“We’ve been really harping on good passing and defence first,” says Bunnaman, “good defence always turns into good offence, and we got a lot of goals in here.”

Head Coach Jay McKee says it’s tough to play in the Soo.

“That’s a big win for our club, to come in here and play the way we did,” says McKee, “we had a young goalie in net with limited experience and I thought we did a good job with keeping the majority to the outside.”

McKee adds he was impressed with how goaltender Luke Richardson played.

“He was moving really well in the net, he made a lot of the saves look easy,” says McKee, “that’s what we want to see. He gave us a chance to win and gave us a lot of confidence.”

The Rangers road trip continues this evening in Saginaw.
