HopeSpring may not close after all

HopeSpring Cancer Support Centre might not be closing on March 31st, and it’s thanks to you.

The service for helping those impacted by cancer and their families has seen a massive influx in donations since they announced its potential closure on January 26th.

Several people in our region have made GoFundMe pages to raise money, while others have offered property space.

Executive Director Gerard Seguin tells 570 NEWS he’s blown away by the amount of support people have shown HopeSpring. “We’re quite frankly overwhelmed and humbled by the outpouring of love we’ve been shown. We could never have anticipated how attached the region is to our centre.”

In order to operate and offer the same level of service in Kitchener and Cambridge, $400,000 is needed annually. Its annual budget is closer to $600,000.

Seguin also says they’ve secured meetings with the Mayors of Kitchener, Waterloo, and Cambridge. “Our next step is meeting with Mayor Vrbanovic, Mayor Jaworsky, and Mayor Craig. It’s very encouraging knowing we have these meetings with them.”
