Rangers sweep 67’s in season series, finish home stand on positive note

Kitchener Rangers forwards Nick McHugh, Cole Carter and Greg Meireles are all from the Ottawa area and all factors in a 5-3 win over the Ottawa 67’s Sunday afternoon.

McHugh who typically plays a shut down role for the Rangers scored on a penalty shot and registered five shots in the win.

Head Coach Jay McKee is impressed with the way McHugh has embraced his role.

“He’s a guy that with his speed, if we put pucks in to areas, he can get by guys and get to them,” says McKee, “he’s a real asset for us and it was nice to see him get rewarded on the breakaway after having three against Windsor the other night and not scoring one.”

Giovanni Vallati also from the Ottawa area was held off the scoresheet but had an impact on the game finishing the afternoon with a plus 2 rating.

Rookie Jonathan Yantsis recorded his first two OHL with a pair of assists.

Kitchener is on the road Tuesday night in Erie to take on the Otters.
