Rangers extend win streak to three with shootout win over Windsor

The last two games between the two clubs were both one-goal games including a 3-2 Windsor win less than a week ago at the WFCU Centre.

It didn’t appear that the game would be another one-goal finish at the start as Windsor came out to a soaring 2-0 lead after the first period Tuesday night at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium.

Kitchener would fight back getting third period goals from Darby Llewllyn and Connor Bunnaman.

Luke Boka would give the Spitfires the lead once again, late in the third period, however, Adam Mascherin would send it to a shootout with his 28th goal of the year beating goaltender Michael DiPietro to tie it up 3-3.

Mascherin is now riding a nine-game point streak and extends his lead in the OHL scoring race with 74 points.

Bunnaman would put away the Spitfires in the fifth round of the shootout getting the 4-3 win for the Blueshirts.

Former Ranger Jeremy Bracco was held pointless and minus-2 in his return to the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium.

Head Coach Jay McKee says he’s impressed with the resiliency of his team.

“Every guy on this team, there’s not one kid in the locker room that gave up on it,” says McKee, “Opie (Luke Opilka) stood tall from after the first goal that he probably wanted to have back, it’s a real character win.”

The Rangers will look to extend their win streak to four when they host their midwest division rivals the Guelph Storm Friday.
