Premier Wynne vows more hydro relief before spring budget

Premier Kathleen Wynne says more hydro relief will be announced before the spring budget.

Wynne met Wednesday with an Amherstburg, Ont., woman who wrote a Facebook post that was shared more than 21,000 times complaining about hydro rates.

Part of the meeting was open to the media, and during that time Wynne told Libby Keenan that she wouldn’t wait for the budget to announce more relief measures.

The government brought in an eight-per-cent rebate on electricity bills as of Jan. 1, but Keenan called that a drop in the bucket.

She has a farm with several horses, though she says there’s no machinery in the stable area, and her most recent bill was for nearly $600.

Also at the legislature on Wednesday, the Canadian Federation of Independent Business presented a survey of 2,965 of its small business members and half said their electricity bills had risen more than 20 per cent in the past three years.
