Kitchener scale-up Igloo adding 50 jobs, prefers local talent

2016 was good to Igloo Software and now, the local scale-up hopes 2017 will bring similar growth.

Igloo works with new start-ups and globally recognized companies to help improve communication, but they aren’t looking far for new talent.

This week, the downtown Kitchener scale-up took over a second floor of its home on King Street, and is planning to expand even further.

Right now Igloo has around 125 employees, but is looking to add another 50 this year.

VP of Marketing, Mike Hicks says Igloo founders went to school in Waterloo Region and they prefer to hire locally, and often pick up recent grads.

“I think it just speaks to, not only the education, but also the start-up infrastructure that’s in the city,” says Hicks. “Our region has the ability for us to incubate companies, and actually grow them, to something that’s sustainable and scalable.”

For the second consecutive year, Igloo has been named to Deloitte’s 2016 Technology Fast 500 as one of the fastest growing companies in North America.

“Kitchener has become a really strong technology hub and we capitalize on the infrastructure and the resources that are made available to us here,” says Hicks. “Hiring locally and continuing to grown locally and be apart of this vibrant tech community is very important to us.”
