Celebrate 2017 at New Year’s Levees in Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge

It’ll be a busy day in the tri-cities as our mayors kick off 2017 at their annual New Year’s Levees.

Three separate levees will be happening in Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge on Sunday afternoon.

Kitchener Mayor Berry Vrbanovic says the events create a great opportunity for people to come together.

“The levee is an opportunity for people to come out and meet their elected officials, their neighbours, and also just celebrate the New Year through a variety of events. Over the last number of years it’s become much more family oriented and we see a wide-range of people coming out over the course of the afternoon.”

Vrbanovic says the Kitchener levee will feature free skating, live entertainment, crafts, face painting and much more.

“This is an opportunity for citizens to come out and meet the Mayor and council and have some dialogue with us and talk about issues concerning them, but also just to celebrate the New Year. We’ll announce our City Builder Award winners, and then continue on with great performances, sledge hockey, and prize draws as well.”

Vrbanovic adds that these types of events are important in Waterloo Region, especially after the holidays.

“The holiday season is so busy for everyone and the challenge often throughout the year becomes providing an opportunity for people to come together– and the New Year’s Levee’s have done that. Not just in Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge– but in cities across Canada.”

Waterloo Mayor Dave Jaworsky will be hosting his New Year’s Levee at the Waterloo Rec Centre– which will feature free skating, free swimming and live entertainment.

Cambridge Mayor Doug Craig and City Council will host the New Year’s Levee at their City Hall, which will also feature free, family-friendly activities.
