Waterloo to begin planning for two Northdale Parks in 2017

As part of its Northdale Plan, the City of Waterloo has spent roughly $2 million to buy 4 properties on Hickory street.

The properties will be turned into two parks in the Columbia and King area of North Waterloo, which has become more densely populated by students in recent years.

Director of Growth Management Scott Nevin says it’s important for those with no yards to have an outdoor place to be, which is why he wants their input for designs on the park.

“To really put a local flavor on their design, the goal will be to engage the community to see what their wants and needs might be for that neighborhood, and hopefully we can deliver on those needs and wants,” says Nevin.

He says as of now there is only one park in the area, and planning for the layout of the new parks will begin sometime in the new year.
