Local MPP is concerned about how devastating a new tax will be on small distilleries in Ontario.

Kitchener-Waterloo NDP member Catherine Fife, called out the Liberals during Question Period on Tuesday in Queen’s Park, saying, “Liberal members of the finance committee voted down amendments that would save Ontario’s craft distillers. Instead, Bill 70 will devastate Ontario’s craft distilling industry.”

There are currently 16 craft distillers in Ontario, and many believe the new tax will have a negative impact on their business.

Fife said, “Ontario’s craft distillers were blindsided by Bill 70. It will force many of them to sell their products abroad instead of in Ontario, change their business models entirely, or simply just shut down.”

She called on Premier Kathleen Wynne to reconsider the tax, and allow a graduated rate of tax for Ontario craft distillers.
