Startup Canada recognizes local entrepreneur

The Founder and CEO of a Waterloo-based company took home the Woman Entrepreneurship Award from Startup Canada.

This award is given to women who impact Canadian entrepreneurship through outstanding activities and leadership of their companies.

Nadia Hamilton, who developed Magnusmode, said the idea for the company came from someone very close to her.

“It all started with my brother, and my brother Troy has autism,” she said.

“The focus, is really leveraging what I learned living with my brother, and working with other people affected by cognitive special needs, to help them to thrive in their own environment at home, or the environment of the community.”

Magnusmode created MagnusCards, a free app that gives step by step instructions for different activities, behaviours and social interactions, such as brushing teeth or taking the bus.

This award does not signify the slow down of Magnusmode, Hamilton says “it’s just the beginning really. We’re looking at U.S wide expansion, North American wide to be clear.”
