Kitchener’s Christkindl Market celebrates 20th anniversary

It’s a big year for the annual Christkindl Market in Kitchener, as this year marks their 20th anniversary. Every year, King Street gets flooded with vendors, food, entertainment and everything Christmas.

Over 90 vendors have set up in the huts along King Street, and Monica Reid, the Communications Chair for the Market says it’s an important anniversary for some dedicated vendors as well.

“20 of them have been with us for 20 years,” she said. “They are just so thrilled to make that such an annual tradition in their business lives, and in their family lives, because many of them are handing off to second and third generations.”

Vendors opened Thursday morning at 10 am, followed by entertainment at 4 pm, and the official opening ceremony at 6 pm. A candlelight procession from Victoria Park will kick it all off. Once at City Hall, Christkindl herself will declare the square open, and the Christmas tree that was brought in on November 22, will be lit.

It’s free admission all four days of the celebrations.

Hours are:

Thursday, December 1 10:00 am – 9:00 pm
Friday, December 2 10:00 am – 9:00 pm
Saturday, December 3 9:00 am – 9:00 pm
Sunday, December 4 10:00 am – 4:00 pm
