Cambridge drivers safest in Waterloo Region: Allstate

If you live in Cambridge, you’ve earned yourself a pat on the back.

Allstate Canada’s latest safe driving study says those of us driving south of the 401, are involved in far less collisions than motorists in Kitchener or Waterloo.

Cambridge ranked 38th out of 86 cities where the study was conducted, and was the only one in our region to see a drop in collision claims over the last two years.

Waterloo placed 48th, while Kitchener fell behind at 53rd.

“We look at data over a two year span, and we only look at 86 communities, and they had to have a minimum of 1,500 episodes that we could look at,” said Terri Meadows, Agency Manager with Allstate Canada.

Speculation about the end of the work week being the most dangerous time to drive, appears to be true.

“Again, looking at the number of collisions that occured in each of the communities, what we found was Friday is the worst day for collisions and the highest frequency.”

The safest cities in our province to drive are Val Therese outside of Sudbury, and La Salle, a suburb of Windsor.

Spruce Grove, Alberta, near Edmonton, was ranked the safest overall.

Halifax and Nova Scotia were each ranked last in road safety for cities and provinces respectively.
