Uptown Waterloo set to re-open on time

It has been a long wait, but finally some light at the end of the tunnel for businesses in Uptown Waterloo.

GranLinq has confirmed that King Street between Erb Street and Union Street will reopen at some point on November 30th.

Construction on the main uptown corridor began in early February of this year.

Patti Brooks is the executive Director of the Uptown BIA she says having Uptown open during the Holiday season was a deal breaker.

“We had talked with GrandLinq and the Region many many months ago about protecting our holiday Christmas season,” said Brooks. We asked that of them last year, and again for this year, the Christmas Holiday season is massive for anyone in retail or the service industry.”

Businesses in Uptown are eagerly awaiting the return of free flowing traffic. Alnoor Keshvani is the owner of Loop Clothing, he says the re-opening is coming just in time.

“It’s going to be a saving grace for a lot of us, it hasn’t been an easy road but as long as we stick together and get the word out there, there is no reason we can’t all be successful,” said Keshvani.

Some construction will continue Uptown for the next several months, but it is not expect to cause significant traffic impact.
