Rangers blank Petes, McGonigle picks up first career OHL win

Chris McGonigle picked up his first OHL win in style.

The Kitchener Rangers goaltender made 32 saves for the shutout, as the Rangers beat the Peterborough Petes 2-0 at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium Friday night.

After two starts on the road to begin his career, McGonigle says getting his first win in front of the home crowd is something he won’t forget.

”I don’t know if I was more confident here or not but, I mean, the atmosphere here kind of motivated me even more, big shout out to the fans are getting us going but yeah, it was pretty good.”

Head Coach Jay McKee gave credit to his rookie goaltender after the game.

“A little bit slow in the first period, we gave them some momentum by taking a couple of penalties, one early and he stood tall there. He turned away a lot of shots in the first, that might be good, it got him in the game early, but no, he was very good for us.”

Adam Mascherin and Jacob Cascagnette scored for the Rangers in their third straight win.

They’ll be back at it Sunday afternoon at home against Saginaw, 570 NEWS will have the pre-game show starting at 1:30 p.m.
