A former coach of the Kitchener Rangers is getting out of hockey.
Troy Smith has stepped down as Associate Coach of the Hamilton Bulldogs, but the Hamilton native will stay on as Assistant General Manager until November 15th.
A news release says Smith is pursuing an opportunity outside of hockey.
“I did not make this decision lightly, especially with the growth and future success of the team which only made the choice more difficult. With the leadership of Michael, Steve and John Gruden, I am confident they will bring a championship to Hamilton.” said Smith.
“Troy played an integral part in building this OHL team and has been a great support to me and for our coaches during his tenure with the organization,” said team President and General Manager Steve Staios. “Troy brought dedication and passion to his role and we wish him well as he begins a new chapter in his career.”
Smith spent nine seasons with the Rangers organization.
