Health Canada pressured to make abortion pill more available

Ongoing pressure from sexual health advocates appears to be pushing Health Canada to loosen some conditions on a heavily regulated abortion pill expected to hit shelves next month.

Mifegymiso has been available elsewhere for nearly 30 years and is approved for use in more than 60 countries with varying restrictions.

Federal regulators says unlike in the U-K, France, the Netherlands and Sweden, Canadian women will not be required to ingest the drug in front of a doctor at a clinic.

The College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia has also vowed to allow its pharmacists to dispense the drug, as is allowed in Australia under certain conditions.
