Police issue warning after non-fatal drug overdoses in Cambridge

Police are out with a warning after two non-fatal drug overdoses in Cambridge.

Both overdoses happened in the same area of Cambridge on Wednesday morning.

In one case, a local police officer performed CPR, while another resident of the home administered an anti-opioid substance to help save the man’s life.

“Right now we believe that the two overdoses were linked,” says Inspector Michael Haffner with Waterloo Regional Police Service.

The investigation led police to a home in Galt on Crombie Street.

Haffner says “the belief is that the drugs were purchased either from, or associated to the address on Crombie Street.”

“The two people that did overdose this morning are, and were, under medical care,” says Haffner. “It’s a wake-up call for all substance users and those purchasing illegal substances as there’s always a risk the drugs aren’t what they believe what they are actually purchasing, and they can be deadly.”

Regional police are warning anyone who may have purchased drugs from this home to safely dispose of them.

Haffner says an update from police is expected sometime this afternoon, or Thursday morning.
