Rangers suffer first regulation loss of the season in Barrie

The Kitchener Rangers suffered their first regulation loss of the season Saturday night.

Barrie outshot Kitchener 42-18, on their way to a 6-3 win.

Head Coach Jay McKee spoke about how playing back-to-back nights may have led to their flat performance.

”It’s not easy,” says McKee “especially when you have a tight game and you’re playing your horses a little bit more in that first fame and you have to travel, it’s not ideal and every team goes through it that’s not an excuse we can build in.”

Both Greg Meireles and Cedric Schiemenz left the game due to injury.

“Greg looks fine now and Cedric’s a little banged up,” said McKee after the game. “I haven’t been able to see him yet, Greg looks okay, I didn’t see the play so I can’t exactly comment on it but we’ll get him evaluated here and hopefully he’ll be back pretty soon.”

McKee gave goaltender Chris McGonigle his first start between the pipes, making 36 saves in his OHL debut.

“I thought early on he looked real sharp,” says McKee, “I think when you go in there for your first game in the OHL you’re going to be extra nervous.”

A day off Sunday for the Rangers before they return home for a Thanksgiving day matchup against Guelph Monday afternoon.

You can catch the game on 570 News starting at 1:30 p.m.
