The community kicked off K-W Oktoberfest Thursday night by celebrating the great things women do in our community every year.
The Rogers Women of the Year awards pay tribute to outstanding women in our community.
Here are the 2016 winners;
-Figure skater Kaitlyn Weaver – Sports and Recreation
-Ann Bilodeau – Lifetime Achievement
-Best Friends of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Waterloo Region – Group Achievement
-Lina Shamoun of Artline Salon – Entrepreneur
-Rebecca Short – Arts and Culture
-Laura Callum – Health and Wellness
-S G Cunningham – Community Service
-Nooran Abumazen – Young Adult
-Cynthia Davis – Professional award
-Dr. Shoshoni Ghose – wins first ever STEM award
The event was emceed by Rogers TV’s Susan Cook-Scheerer and Sandra from CHYM 96.7. Former Waterloo mayor Brenda Halloran was the keynote speaker.
