‘Marathon of Hope: The Musical’ to debut in Waterloo Region

The musical was ten years in the making, and it’s having its opening night tonight.

‘Marathon of Hope: The Musical’ that follows the inspirational story of Terry Fox will play at the St. Jacob’s Country Playhouse from October 5-30th.

The play was workshopped and will be presented through Drayton Entertainment, and Executive Producer Max Reimer says that it just had to be a musical.

“When words aren’t enough, we need the emotions to soar, and with such a big theme as Terry Fox’s legacy, that’s what we needed to do. This musical is beautiful in how it captures the essence of Terry’s heart and the commitment to his cause,” says Reimer.

He added that Terry’s family was closely involved to make sure his story was told in a way that would honour his memory.

The original van that Terry used in their drive across Canada will be on display at the theatre, and Terry’s brother Darrell Fox will be attending the opening night show.

“We’re pretty excited, we don’t do a lot of world premieres,” says Reimer. “We primarily do plays that we know the people will like in advance that are part of our cultural mosaic. But this is one where Drayton decided to take the reins and really be the leader on this particular project.”

Tickets can be purchased at the Drayton Entertainment website or by calling 1-855-DRAYTON.

“There’s nothing like seeing a show that’s in development for the first time. It will be done across our country, but maybe not in our region ever again. It’s something that people will want to be a part of.”
