Fire crews continue to investigate Puslinch fire

Fire crews continue to investigate a massive house fire on Ellis Road in Puslinch.

The call came in just before 4 a.m. Saturday morning.

Deputy Fire Chief with Puslinch Fire and Rescue Services, Luis Gomes tells 570 News the homeowners made the call early Saturday morning.

“It came in as people trapped inside a house,” says Gomes. “A second page out to our volunteers actually said that all the residents were out of the building, which was good to hear.”

14 people were inside the home when the fire broke out in the basement.

“I heard that there was 14 people living in the home at the time so it was very nice to hear that everyone made it out safely.”

He describes what fire crews saw as they arrived on scene.

“There were flames coming out of the basement windows, first story windows, and second story windows on the front side of the building. I did a quick size-up.” Gomes says “the first pumper that arrived was from Puslinch, we got water on the fire as soon as we could.”

Extra help was needed to fight the blaze. A call was placed for Cambridge Fire, Guelph Fire, and Rockwood Fire.

“They assisted with their tanker right away and a pumper truck so we had lots of water, as much as we could, to help put out this fire,” says Gomes. “There was so much fuel there that it just took off and it was a little hard for us to save.”

Damage estimates are expected to be in the millions, and fire crews say the home is completely destroyed.

“No word on the cause. I’m just happy everybody made it out safely,” says Gomes. “They had working smoke alarms and that’s what notified them that there was a fire in their home and that’s why everyone made it out safely.”

The fire is not being deemed as suspicious. In an email to 570 News Monday morning, Gomes says “the Ontario Fire Marshal’s office is no longer investigating based on the information that was provided by the homeowner and myself provided. Only Puslinch Fire is investigating at this time.”

A GoFundMe page has been set up by the homeowner’s family. You can access the page right here.
