OPP launch fall seat belt campaign

The Ontario Provincial Police launch their fall seat belt campaign on Wednesday.

It comes as they release some troubling statistics that show some people are still not getting the message.

So far this far, the OPP say 40 people have lost their lives in crashes in which they were not buckled up.

Between 2011 and last year, that number swells to close to 350 deaths.

The campaign, which runs through October 7th, will focus on enforcement and education.

The fine for not wearing a seat belt is $110.

OPP Deputy Commissioner Brad Blair says “This campaign serves as an important reminder that every driver and adult passenger has a responsibility to buckle up. Drivers are also responsible for ensuring all passengers under the age of 16 are properly restrained. It’s especially important that small children are in approved seat restraints.”
