Cambridge dog seized by Animal Services after biting 5-year-old girl

A dog in Cambridge responsible for several bites has been seized by Animal Services.

The dog has been involved in several incidents over the last year causing problems for the Preston neighbourhood

The most recent bite happened two weeks ago. A 5-year-old girl was biking along the Bob McMullen Trail when the dog lunged out and bit her.

The owner of the dog was unwilling to cooperate with officials so a court order was needed before seizing the dog.

Cambridge Ward 3 Councillor Mike Mann says because the owner would not cooperate the young victim had to get rabies shots to make sure she was not infected.

Mann tells me this case is highly unusual, “Dog owners are very good, very responsible, and we realize that, in this case we had difficulty with the owner, and that’s why the young child had to get rabies shots, and the court order had to be obtained.”

Yesterday afternoon the paperwork was finished and the dog was eventually turned over.

The fate of the dog will now be in the hands of the courts who will determine what to do with the dog.
