Canadian Solar plant in Guelph lays off 130 workers

130 people are out of work in Guelph.

Energy provider Canadian Solar confirms to 570 News they let go of the staff from one of their production lines on Friday.

Gary Robertson, VP of HR and Administration says Module orders are down, and they’re focusing on R&D and customized solutions as opposed to, what it calls, cookie cutter ideas.

Robertson wouldn’t say layoffs are done, saying they’re continuing to adjust, but says the company is committed to the facility, and the city of Guelph.

570 News obtained a memo Sunday that was sent to staff.

An ex-employee claims 40 people have left every month since April.
