Waterloo Region & Guelph share $18 million in infrastructure funding for water treatment plants

A big boost for local water treatment plants.
Through the federal government’s Clean Water Wastewater Fund, $10.6 million will be given towards Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge plants while $7.6 million will be given to plants in Guelph.
The funding aims to help rehabilitate and improve our community’s water and wastewater systems, and is part of a $1.1 billion dual federal-provincial project.
“This funding is a testament to the collaboration and positive relationships built among all three levels of government,” said Guelph Mayor Cam Guthrie in a release.
Local plants will see improvements to their wastewater systems through the funding– including upgrades to reservoirs and pipes.
“We’re following through on our plan with yet another installment in the development and construction of community capital projects that address immediate drinking water, wastewater and stormwater needs that will also foster economic growth and support a cleaner and healthier environment for our community,” said local MP Marwan Tabbara.
